Athencia is a managed IT and cybersecurity firm for SMBs in professional services — law firms, accounting practices, financial advisors. No call centers, no rotating generalists. Our clients have a senior-level partner who actually knows their environment, and that's by design.
We're building a bench of experienced subcontractors we can hand work to with confidence. If you've run your own shop, operated as an independent, or spent a career doing real Microsoft infrastructure work, this is worth reading.
The Work We Do
Microsoft 365 / Entra ID / Azure
Tenant configuration, Conditional Access, Defender hardening, Exchange Online, Teams governance, Intune policy, license optimization. M365 Business Premium is the floor for our clients. If you have to look up what that means, this probably isn't the right fit.
Project-Based Migrations
VMware to Hyper-V, Google Workspace to M365, on-prem Exchange decommissions, server consolidations. Structured scope, clean delivery — we need people who can own a workstream from kickoff to documentation without a lot of hand-holding in between.
Endpoint & Device Management
Intune, Autopilot, Windows onboarding, MDM policy, compliance baselines. Entra hybrid join and cloud Kerberos trust experience is a genuine plus, not a checkbox item.
Networking
Fortinet, SonicWall, Meraki, Ubiquiti. VLAN design, switching, wireless. SMB-scale work — you won't be racking Nexus chassis, but you do need clean documentation habits and the ability to explain what you did in plain English.
Who We're Looking For
Ten-plus years in IT infrastructure, with actual depth in the Microsoft stack. You've been independent before — as a contractor, a freelancer, a small MSP — so you know how to show up, scope something, and close it out.
The other things that matter: you communicate early when something shifts (not after the deadline), you write notes a client can actually read, and you can sit across from a small business owner and have a conversation without making them feel like an idiot.
You also carry your own E&O and general liability coverage.
Certifications are fine. What you've shipped matters more.
How Engagements Work
Work gets routed based on skillset, availability, and geography when on-site is required. Tell us your capacity when you apply — rate, scope, and fit all get sorted together before anything starts.
Engagements range from a few targeted hours to multi-week projects. You'll work under the Athencia name; we'll give you full context on the client and environment before you talk to anyone. E&O and GL coverage is confirmed during onboarding. Payment is net-30 from invoice.
